A Social Media Strategy that continues to work well

Forrester Research’s POST template for developing a social media strategy still works extremely well.

The POST acronym stands for People, Objectives, Strategy, Technology, explained as follows:

  • People: assess your customer’s social computing behaviors
  • Objectives: decide what you want to accomplish
  • Strategy: plan for how relationships with customers will change
  • Technology: decide what social technologies to use

It is important to think this through before you create a Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. accounts for your business. There are hundreds more out there!

One of the first questions we ask our clients is “Why do you want to use Social Media?” or “what are you trying to achieve?”. When jumping into social media please remember that it is social. This implies a two-way conversation and engagement. Otherwise, just use your website. So often you see people start their social media campaign and watch it slowly die off a few weeks later. It take a commitment. It takes effective tools. It takes a well though out strategy too.

We can help you with the tools and strategy, but you have to show up with the long term commitment.
